The Cairns Casino
The Cairns Casino, officially known as the Sofitel Reef Casino Cairns is open 7 days per week. From Monday to Thursday, it is open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00am. From 10:00am Friday until 4:00am Monday, the doors are open continuously. The casino is closed on Good Friday, Anzac Day, and Christmas Day.
The Cairns casino dress code requires smart, clean clothing and suitable footwear. Although Cairns does have a tropical warm climate, it is still advised for men to wear a shirt with a collar, and wear socks with their shoes. A tie is not necessary however. Ladies should generally ensure their attire is not overly revealing, and is in good condition. Work wear is not permitted to be worn in the casino gaming area.
The Cairns casino has a New York style nightclub called 1936, which is very popular with visitors to the region. It is an upmarket nightclub, often attracting the 20 - 30 year olds, and regularly advertises themed evening such as ladies nights. 1936 is entirely fitted out with an industrial look & feel, and has 2 bars and a private pool table area which is a little quieter than the main dance area. Only persons 18 years of age and over may enter the nightclub. Security people will check I.D.s of any person trying to gain entry to the casino who appears under the age of 20.
Vertigo Bar is a newly renovated bar in the foyer of the casino with spectacular blue lit drinks tables, live entertainment on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights, and a curtain of chains separating it from the main foyer area. This modern bar serves spectacular cocktails, and is extremely popular with visitors and locals, especially with the 25 - 45 age bracket.
Cairns Rainforest Dome is a recent attraction to open within the Cairns casino complex featuring a spectacular all weather wildlife exhibit encased by a 20 metre high glass dome on the rooftop of the casino. 100 species of Australian animals are able to wander and fly freely throughout the dome which replicates their natural environment.
The Rainforest Dome offers guests a quality wildlife experience that promotes education and understanding of rainforest ecology. See the Cairns' first underwater viewing crocodile enclosure which enables visitors to view, eyeball to eyeball, a large saltwater crocodile!
Restaurants & Bars
Tamarind Restaurant is the Cairns casino's signature restaurant which is well known for its innovative Asian cuisine. The restaurant is clasy and sophisticated, and is one of Cairns' most romantic and intimate venues for a special dinner for two. Tamarind is well known and popular, and bookings are essential.
The recently renovated Pacific Flavours is a buffet style restaurant which has an affordable seafood buffet on Saturday evenings and a standard hot and cold food buffet on other nights. Again, a very popular restaurant, and it is best to book in advance if you plan to dine here. Perhaps the best meal of the day at Pacific Flavours is the spectacular breakfast! With a hot food buffet, omelette station, huge range of cereals and fruits, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, pancakes, breads and juices, as well as a full Japanese breakfast bar, the Pacific Flavours breakfast is well worth an early start.
Attached to the outside of the casino, Cafe China Noodle Bar in the historic Customs House building offers a wide range of authentic Asian dishes including; noodle soups, stir-fries, Peking duck salad, Singapore chicken rice and curry chicken. With seating for up to 100, Cafe China Noodle Bar also has alfresco balcony tables overlooking the city centre.
