Cairns Lagoon and Esplanade
Cairns Lagoon
As the first of the suns rays hit the Cairns Lagoon until dusk, the swimming pool located right in the heart of the Cairns business district is abuzz with tourists and locals relaxing on the grassy knoll or splashing in the shallows. The crystal clear waters of the Cairns swimming Lagoon prove to be incredibly inviting as the temperature warms up and the need for a quick dip to cool off is paramount.
The large swimming area is patrolled daily by Life Guards who ensure the safety of the 1000 or so swimmers that the Cairns Lagoon can accommodate at any one time. Ranging in depth from 32 inches to 5 feet the Cairns Lagoon features underwater seating benches making it easy for all to enjoy. The Cairns Lagoon is fitted with disability access which is located at the southern end of the facility.
Located on the foreshore of the Trinity Harbour front, the Cairns Lagoon has sandy shores and timber decking surrounding the 4800 square meter salt water swimming pool. The water that fills the state-of-the-art swimming facility is pumped in from the Trinity Inlet and cleansed through a high tech filtration system.
A day spent at the Cairns Lagoon is the perfect way to soak up some sun, enjoy some safe swimming, meet some other tourists to catch up with your friends and take in the views of the stunning Trinity Inlet and mountains that line the horizon. While there are plenty of nearby restaurants and coffee shops, locals like to lay out a picnic at one of the many tables located in the surrounding park grounds. Dotted along the boardwalk of the Cairns Esplanade right by the Lagoon are 12 BBQ facilities that are cleaned daily and are available for use throughout the day.
Muddy's Playground
Muddy's Playground features so many fun activities for children; it is touted as being one of the best playgrounds in Australia. Kids just love the water park features where they can run through ankle deep water and splash in the shallows. From rope bridges, flying fox, slides, play houses, story telling areas, to see-saws Muddy's Playground has plenty to keep the little ones amused for hours and in turn keep the parents sane and give them sometime to catch up with friends for a coffee or snack.
The playground is divided into three distinct sections with each one containing equipment and activities geared towards specific age groups. While the playground as a whole is generally more suitable for children aged 10 and under, older children often enjoy playing there too.
Muddy's Playground has a large café and seating area conveniently located in the middle of the playground or there are BBQ and picnic table facilities located close by. While children have a great time at Muddy's Playground, there are plenty of nearby spots in the shade for parents to relax.
Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk
The Cairns Esplanade boardwalk is the gathering place for joggers, cyclists, power walkers, yoga enthusiasts, skateboarders or for those that want to take a stroll along the timber boardwalk in the sunshine and just take in the ocean and mountain views.
This area is densely planted with big shady trees, manicured grass, exercise equipment from one end to the next and it even has a skate park for the teenagers and just beyond here are the tennis courts.
The Cairns Esplanade takes pride of place in our liveable city.
