Cairns City Regional Tennis Centre
Location
The Cairns Tennis Centre will be located in Cairns North on the Captain Cook Highway next to the Tobruk Swimming Pool. The location was chosen to give easy access to the nearby Cairns Domestic and International Airport and the wide array of nearby Cairns Accommodation. Next to the new tennis facility are motels, self contained apartments, hotels and resorts. Also, it is fairly close to the surrounding Cairns Suburbs making it easy access for locals tennis players as well.
Tennis Events
There will be a lot of tennis tournaments and events at the soon to be completed Cairns Regional Tennis Centre with Tennis Australia already committing to hold at least three tournaments at the Cairns Regional Tennis Centre that would draw a crowd including top 10 ranked Australian Players, as well as highly ranked international juniors! Some of the promised events are an International Juniors event, a pro circuit tournament and Australian Money events.
The Cairns Regional Tennis Centre Facilities
The Cairns Regional Tennis Centre was purpose built with the tropical climate in mind, from the plexi - cushion surface (the same used in the Australian Open) to a specially designed verandah which will catch the beautiful tropical breeze as well as offer players the benefit of glare reduction and a bit of shade to play in.
Cairns Regional Tennis Centre Clubhouse
The Cairns Regional Tennis Centre will have a full two level clubhouse including change rooms, a pro shop, players gymnasium, offices, media and meeting rooms.
Tennis Court Design
Newly released designs for the North Cairns Reserve's sporting facelift include 12 tennis courts built to International Tennis Federation standards, a show court with a portable grandstand and a second synthetic hockey pitch. The Cairns tennis centre is expected to be finished by September 2010 and ready for some big name player tournaments. The Cairns City Council will spend $2.5 million on the centre. The State Government has committed $1.9 million and Tennis Queensland the rest.
Tennis for All
Cairns is gearing up to be able to compete with rivaling larger cities for sporting events. One of the reasons Cairns is able to do this is not only due to its wonderful world recognised tourism attractions, but the strong amount of local support and enthusiasm received to support the tennis facility. The Cairns Regional Tennis Centre will not be disimilar to other larger cities tennis centres therefore will be able to attract real tennis professionals to compete and utilize it during tournaments and whilst they are enjoying the tropical climate on holidays. Local residents of Cairns will still be able to use the tennis courts for some fun social and fundraising events year round.
