Your day starts with one of the Billy Tea Safaris custom built 4WD vehicles picking you up from your city accommodation and then we make our way up over the McAllister Range, this scenic drive will take you through World Heritage Rainforest as you make your way up to the Atherton Tablelands and the scenery changes dramatically as you make your way over the Great Dividing Range to the start of the Australian Outback.

Activities

Flyer

First stop off is the Mareeba Wetlands a place that Birders and Naturalists have on their bucket lists to visit as these wetlands have huge variety of rare and endangered species of mammals, birds, butterflies, flora and fauna as well as the sheer beauty. Here we enjoy Morning Tea and a Boat Cruise on the Lagoon to learn more about this fragile eco system.

Then it’s back aboard the Billy Tea Safaris 4WD to travel over the Great Dividing Range to the Australian Outback, seeing Emus, Kangaroos, Wedge Tail Eagles and lots more Australian native wildlife. We will take a step back in time, to see old historic mining town’s enroute to the historic township of Chillagoe. We will explore the old copper smelters whose chimneys dominate the skyline before enjoying a true Aussie Pub Lunch at the Historical Chillagoe Pub which was built at the turn of the century.

Chillagoe Caves

After lunch its now time to explore and take a step back in time to take a guided walk through the four million year old limestone Chillagoe Caves and to see the fossilized remains of ancient coral reefs and limestone labyrinths that make up these majestic caves. The Chillagoe Caves were made from ground water percolating and dissolving the limestone and forming limestone towers that just kept on increasing in size.

Your guided tour will be with a Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park Ranger thru the Donna, Trezkinn and Royal Arch Caves which are classed as some of the best in the world. These caves do have pathways but it is always recommended that you have sensible walking shoes and there are some steps to negotiate. The Donna Cave is beautifully lit to show off the limestone towers and formations which is also great for your photography images. The Trezkinn Cave is also electrically lit. The Royal Arch Cave has no lighting so torches are carried by each person as you enter for your horizontal caving adventure. The Chillagoe Caves area is rich with the history of the Aboriginal people who used to visit and inhabit this area and their story telling rock art paintings. It's also a historical mining site where they used to smelter copper, silver, lead and gold at the turn of the 20th century.

Mt Uncle Distillery

Once the Chillagoe Caves tour is over its time to board your Billy Tea overland vehicle and head back to the coast of Cairns but not before you drop in and visit the Mt Uncle Distillery for a choice of tea, coffee or scones or if you are feeling the sundowner drink feeling coming on then you can go on a tasting tour of their premium home grown and produced liqueurs and spirits (at your own cost) and you can even add some liqueur chocolates to the mix. Mt Uncle Distillery is surrounded by Bananas, Avocado's and Macadamia nut trees in beautifully landscaped gardens and in the Bridges Café you can wander around and view the local artwork and other little bits and pieces on display. If you are up for an exotic cocktail they can mix up a mean Kiwi Caprioska from their own pure triple pot distilled vodka. Make sure you visit the cellar door and take some of these Cairns produced goodies home for family and friends to share with you of course. Mt Uncle Distillery is the perfect place for your last stop on the way home from the Chillagoe Caves to Cairns.

As a local I do not get out in my backyard enough so I decided that I would grab my girlfriend and get of the couch and go trekking to Cape Tribulation with Billy Tea Bush Safaris. It was an early morning start but that was ok as we did not play up the night before and we were met by our driver host for the day who had a very welcoming cheesy grin to meet us. We got to ride in the brand new overland truck in the nice comfy seats that ride up high so you can see everything. Trip to Cape Trib was informative and scenic along the way and the first activity we got into was crocodile spotting. It was our lucky day as we saw a huge male and two females on the river banks. Then it was off into the magical rainforest and boardwalks and beaches. Our host gave us lots of information we would never see or learn about if we went here by ourselves so we were fully informed about the importance of preserving our rainforests and its endangered inhabitants. We went swimming in a crystal clear creek which was freezing and tasted tropical fruits that I have never been game to buy. Great BBQ lunch a play with kangaroos and wallabies and then off for some exotic tropical fruit ice cream on the journey home. We had the best day! Thank you Billy Tea for showing us our beautiful backyard you guys do it so well and your drivers are fabulous. Well done to you!

This trip, was mostly for my husband as he is a keen 4wdriver and was very excited to see the bloomfield track. But i was pleasantly suprised at just how much I enjoyed this trip. It really is for everyone. The food was of a very high standard and the guides were all very informative. The swim was my favorite, refreshing me and satisfying me for the day. Thank you billy tea safaris, for keeping us both happy.

A self drive of the Daintree just did not do it for me... The Daintree and Cape Tribulation tour with Billy Tea Bush Safari's opened my eyes to how much I had missed out on during my self drive and how much more I saw while being guided! Finn, our tour guide, did an excellent job and there was nothing he couldn't answer for us in regards to the Daintree Rainforest. My Bloomfield Track photos are just stunning. We saw crocodiles on our river cruise, tasted tropical fruit, swam in Emmagen Creek and had lunch with the Kangaroos too! I am very glad I chose to travel with Billy Tea Bush Safari's.
