A day on Passions includes:

  • A modern high-performance 25 metre custom-designed sailing catamaran, capable of speeds in excess of 15 knots to get you to the Great Barrier Reef quickly.
  • Two unique locations showcasing the diversity of the Great Barrier Reef. First stop is Michaelmas Cay National Park, a world famous bird sanctuary with a beautiful sandy beach. Snorkel straight off the beach through coral gardens of giant clams to see turtles and colourful fish. The second location is Paradise Reef, an exclusive mooring just for Passions so there are no crowds as you snorkel on the outer Great Barrier Reef.
  • A buffet lunch freshly prepared onboard by the Passions chef. It includes prawns, a mixed meat platter, two hot meals (and soup during winter), mixed bread and fruit platters, a variety of great gourmet salads as well as morning and afternoon tea.
  • The very best equipment. All diving and snorkelling gear is in excellent condition and the vessel is fitted with modern hi-tech sailing gear.
  • Highly trained staff dedicated to your enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef. Passions' staff love their job so much, many have been with the locally-owned company for years. This very low staff turnover is the Passions of Paradise point of difference and what makes them happy filters down to the passengers to ensure that every day is a great day on the Reef.
  • A company that has been awarded the highest levels of eco certification.
  • Free guided snorkel tours and interpretive reef briefs. Learn about the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and help Passions of Paradise protect it.
  • Certified and introductory diving is available at an optional additional cost. This is Passions' specialty. Certified divers have a range of exciting locations where a specially designed dive tender will take you to the est dive site on the day. Introductory divers dive directly from the boat with highly experienced and fun instructors into shallow coral gardens teeming with fish and marine life.
  • Well stocked bar and beverages, for the trip home.

Welcome Aboard

Boutique, local, service-focused and dedicated to protecting the Great Barrier Reef, that's the Passions of Paradise philosophy that has ensured the company's popularity with visitors and locals alike since it was founded in 1989. The team that started Passions of Paradise 21 years ago is still running the company today. Owners Alan, Beau and Roger are all diving instructors, plus Beau and Alan are qualified skippers, so you will often meet us down at the boat or even as part of the crew. In the big business of taking people to the Great Barrier Reef, Passions of Paradise has elected to stay small and boutique. The company focuses on its environmental commitment, excellent service, friendly, helpful staff and giving passengers exactly what they want.

We like to stay at the top of our game, so have just done a complete refit of the Passions of Paradise high-speed catamaran. The entire vessel has been stripped so it could be updated with new furnishings, the latest low energy lighting, UV reflective glass and quiet, energy efficient engines. The newly refurbished 25 metre vessel not only looks brand new, but it has reduced our company's carbon footprint. Yet another step we have taken to help protect the wonderful environment we showcase to the world.

Recent innovations include the Great Barrier Reef's first webcam mounted onboard the Passions catamaran so you can CLICK HERE and check out the weather on the Great Barrier Reef or join Passions via the internet when we spot the whales during their annual migration through the Reef.

Yes, we're passionate about the Reef and so are our staff and that translates into award-winning service for you. In fact, Passions of Paradise has won the Queensland Tourism award so many times it now has a place in the Queensland Tourism Hall of Fame. While awards are great, they really serve to keep Passions focused on what is most important – showing you, our guests, a great day on the Great Barrier Reef. If travelling on a superb sailing catamaran to truly unique and very different locations with fun, professional staff is what you are looking for, then Passions of Paradise is the Great Barrier Reef boat for you.

I met some really nice people that work on Passions. They taught me to dive for the first time and helped me find a turtle to swim with. Thank you

I am a fan of nice local operators and I was very impressed with the amount of work this company has put into being environmentally friendly. All there efforts to protect the reef sharks is particularly impressive. Keep up the good work guys.

So many TURTLES! I totally got to feed them. I bet your so J! They are so giant. First time scuba diving and I got to see so many animals. I saw a shark, not a scary one and colourful fish. I am really proud of this company for being involved in saving reef sharks. It made my day being able to see one. Thank you to the whole team, specially my dive instructor.

SO MANY TURTLES! :D they were everywhere and when I went diving my instructor let me feed them. The coral was so pretty, and the fish were colourful. It was a bit windy the day I went but it didnt matter, it just made for some awesome sailing on the way back. Crew were great and the boat is very roomy and comfortable. Thanks passions.

Rinny from Sth Africa said on August 28, 2011

Oh my goodness the reef was so beautiful and the water so warm. The local turtle the Pasions of Paradise crew called "Smash" came and swam with all of the guests. There were so many fish and beautiful corals. The crew were so helpful as my family are not good swimmers so they showed us how to use a snorkel and float. Thank you for a wonderful day Passions of Paradise

I thoroughly enjoyed the great barrier reef day tour on Passions, I took friends from Melbourne out with me and they also totally loved it.
I will be doing the tour again in October when more of my friends come up from Victoria as well.
Thankyou for having a great crew that made the day such a enjoyable one.
The friends from Melbourne that went out with me yesterday is going to spread the word for everyone that's coming up to Cairns to take the reef tour through your company.
Many thanks for a great day out.
regards Suzy

I went on the Passions of Paradise trip on Sunday 8th May. I am not sure what made me choose Passions of Paradise, but I am so glad I did! It was "awesome" and then some!! While some boats have hundred of passengers on board, the maximum their boat can carry is 85 and we had 74 our day. It feels very personal, friendly and special and if you soon get to know those on board. All the crew were great so it seems a bit mean to select any in particular but take Simon, who led the day - he knew all 74 of our names within a few minutes of us all being on the boat and called us all by name all day, and got them right! He kept checking we were getting what we needed and also did magic tricks on the return journey back from the reef! They are hugely knowledgeable about the Reef and so helpful. I was quite nervous of swimming as I am not a very strong swimmer so Anau, one of the crew, took a few of us on a snorkelling tour with a lifesaving ring, at no extra charge. For an hour he pulled us round the reef, making sure we saw all the best areas and was both patient and charming! What a star. And then, at the second location, Glen took those of us who wanted to out on their glass bottom boat (small extra charge) and was very insightful about what we saw and obliging in helping us see what we wanted like turtles! I can't recommend Passions of Paradise highly enough. When I return I wouldn't go anywhere else! Thank you so much for an amazing and great value day.

Most AMAZING day ever! Couldn't ask for more for my only day in Cairns. Passions of Paradise has the nicest staff and really good quality food. I saw so much best bit was when I got to see finding nemo. :)

We booked this trip at a tour desk in Palm Cove where we were staying as it was recommended to us. I have to tell you it was spot on what we were looking for. We had the best day of our holiday. We did another reef trip before this one which we thought was amazing but Passions of Paradise just blew us away. Everything was just amazing from the boat and Staff to the snorkelling and the reef. We would be happy to recommend you to our friends that go to Cairns. Well Done and thank you.

My Cairns travel review I want to share with you. This was our first trip to Cairns so was not sure on where to go what to see what to do but knew we had to see the Cairns Great Barrier Reef. We were told by other travellers about a sail boat with a really fun crew so considering we were up for some fun we jumped aboard.
And oh Wow what a great day we had on Passions. We were lucky as it had just had a major overhaul to make it shiny and new. The crew were so much fun, the food great after snorkelling in salt water all day and the reef fish and coral just magic.
Thank you Passions and keep up the great work we will return!
