The Cairns-Kuranda Scenic Railway was constructed between 1882 and 1891 and even today is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical Far North Queensland who lost their lives while working on the railway.

Last visited Cairns and the Kuranda Rail/skyrail was in September 2005. It was an awsome experience going through the historic culture and heritage of this beautiful place. The waterfalls are breathtaking and gives you the oportunity to take a few minutes as the train stops in the heart of the waterfalls so you take photos of the natural beauty. Previous to the 2005 visit I have also taken the same journey in December of 1992. It is a place that draws you back when you first visit Cairns. I definately recommend tourist visit this place....

Only had two days in Cairns and I went to the reef one day and the rainforest the 2nd day. Really glad I chose to do the Skyrail and train. It was a really nice way to explore the forest. It had been raining so Barron Falls was overflowing. Just perfect!

This trip really is as much about the journey as the destination. Stunning views from the top of skyrail and I also liked the view of the waterfalls from the train. Just incredible. I even added Tjapukai to the end of my adventure which really made the day.

The rainforest is so much more interesting when your dangling from 30 above it. I think what really made this tour though was the Barron Falls they were overflowing the day we went and made for some stunning photos.

This was definately a good choice for a rainy afternoon. The rainforest looks so green and the barron falls were flowing heavily. It even cleared up enought to see out to green island.

Did Skyrail and train today with the family to Kuranda village and just loved it. What a way to see the rainforests gliding across trees in a gondola on skyrail. Whoever thought of this was a genius. Old train was a treat for the kids the waterfalls we cruised past etc. Coming to Cairns you just have to do it. Great day out for the family. Thank you Skyrail and Train

The best way to see the rainforest! Kuranda was a really nice village, good markets and I had a really nice lunch up there. But I have to say the journey was good enough that you didn't need a destination. Incredible views!

Yesterday I ventured up to Kuranda and was overwhelmed by the sights of the canopy below me as I travelled up by skyrail. My family and I having travelled all the way from England and wanted to balance having something for my husband and I to do as well as entertaining our children. The skyrail provided this merging education with a stunning view, we were all mesmerized. I even was lucky enough to see a turtle from those great heights, splashing around in the Barron River. The staff were so kind, making it a real aussie experience. Definately the best way to see the rainforest.
