MV-RQ is the pride of the Cairns fleet of reef boats as she is a new luxury vessel that was launched on the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns Tropical North Queensland Australia early 2016. She is not only impressive looking with her sleek lady lines but she is also fully equipped with the most modern state of the art engineering and facilities.

Although this dive and snorkel boat is licensed to carry up to 125 passengers, our guest numbers are capped at 80 people to ensure the ultimate comfort and full attention for all guests by our dedicated crew. She is a huge 24 metres long catamaran and able to offer a smooth comfortable ride in just about any weather conditions.

We have 50 diving spots per day with most of those being for certified scuba divers so if you are keen to really explore the depths then book a dive trip with us

There is plenty of comfy seating on board MV-RQ with air conditioned indoor levels as well as three spacious sundecks- top of the boat, second level and at the bow of the boat.

Guests may lounge about on the top deck and feel the nice tropical sun on your skin with a cool breeze to keep your bodies temperature perfect as you cruise your way out to dive & snorkel Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

During the day you will be pampered and catered to for all meals morning and afternoon tea and a tropical buffet lunch which consists of cold cuts, salads, tropical seasonal fruits. Complimentary tea, coffee and chilled water are available throughout the day as well as snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages for on-board purchasing.

Day Tours - Diving, Snorkelling and Sun!

MV-RQ caters for snorkelers, certified and introductory scuba divers on this one day dive trip. Our on-board “Discover Scuba Diving” program is a perfect introduction to the reef for those that wish to give scuba diving a go for the first time with pre-dive tuition, close underwater supervision by our super dive masters, a souvenir dive recognition card and a certificate to prove you completed a dive included.

Certified divers have a fantastic time exploring the deep caverns and swim throughs seeing huge Pelagic fish, Stingrays, Turtles, Sharks and more on our exclusive Great Barrier Reef sites. Each certified diver has the opportunity to have up to three spectacular dives in one day.

Our exclusive dive locations are on the outer edges of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef (approx 70km offshore) and offer outstanding underwater visibility, superb coral formations and abundant, colourful marine life including Wally, the friendly 1.5m Maori Wrasse at Norman Reef!

We will visit 2 reef locations on the one day and our skipper will choose those locations the day before based on the wind, currents, weather and marine activity on the reef. The skipper has the choice of exclusive moorings at Norman, Saxons and Hastings reef all of which have Nemo’s, Dory, Turtles, Stingrays and of course everyone’s favourite fish Wally the huge Hump head Maori Wrasse fish that loves a pat and photo bomb.

Each and every one of our exclusive dive & snorkel moorings are also great for nervous swimmers and snorkelers. With only mild currents and the Great Barrier Reef providing a coral buffer zone and plenty of shelter from the waves you are sure to have excellent visibility of up to 20 metres with the clean water this far out in the Coral Sea of Australia.

Liveaboard Overnight Dive Trips – Multiple Days & Nights to Choose From  

MV–OQ is a steel hull 36 metre catamaran covering 3 decks, providing plenty of space for socialising and relaxation. Spend your time outdoors under the Queensland sunshine and watch the stunning views go by as your boat captain begins the first leg of your journey on your Great Barrier Reef dive adventure.  

Liveaboard Accommodation

With 23 rooms in total consisting of 4 double bed suites, 18 twin share cabins and 1 quad share cabin, we are capable of accommodating 48 customers overnight on the reef in total comfort.

All rooms have private en-suite facilities, air-conditioning and a television. For entertainment guests can gather in the lounge area on the wheelhouse deck that of course has the obligatory cocktail bar where you can socialise and relax and kick back after a long day of diving. The main deck has a large dining room capable of comfortably seating 48 passengers.

With 14 permanent moorings on the Outer Barrier Reef (including Norman and Saxon reefs), our boats ensure minimal damage to the pristine coral formations and the reefs inhabitants. Our dive sites are frequented by myriads of tropical fish and include the ever popular large Maori Wrasse, who are always diver friendly. The swim through, wall and drift dives will appeal to every level of diver experience.

Come on board and try our optional extra unique fluorescent night dives. We have special torches and mask filters that light up the water to create some mesmerising watery landscapes. (Night diving is an optional extra and needs to be pre-booked)

Learn to Dive From Cairns On The Great Barrier Reef In Australia

Thinking of learning to scuba dive? Well we are one of the longest operating dive centres in Cairns Queensland Australia and we have taught hundreds of people how to dive in our premier dive centre. All of our theory dive training facilities are under one roof, which is one of the many reasons we have earned our PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre status and PADI Career Development status - one of the highest ratings awarded to any Dive store as recognition of continued Diver training excellence.

We offer scuba dive courses of any type of level and experience and you can choose from a 4 Day PADI Budget priced Open Water Course to a 6 Day Open Water & Advanced certification! If you wish to become a rescue diver then we have the courses to get you the certification.

We also do refresher courses to get you back in the water with confidence.

Additional Course Details

All open water students require a dive medical, performed to AS4005.1 Standards. Students must also pass a 200m swim test which is not being timed so you can choose your pace. Courses start daily at their Cairns training centre. Open Water course consists minimum of 2 pool and classroom days and minimum 2 days out on the reef to do 4 training dives.
