Cairns White Water Rafting is all about team adventure! White Water Rafting is not for the faint-hearted, but an exhilarating ride down a raging river in an inflatable rafting boat provides excitement that will be difficult to beat on any Cairns holiday.
The white water rafts are tough inflatable's with self-draining floors. All the water that comes in over the side of the rafts and drains right back out again so there is no risk of sinking while you're white water rafting. Not only is white water rafting exciting, it's a fantastic source of exercise!
We have full day white water rafting on the famous Tully River in Mission Beach or half day rafting on the Barron River in Cairns.
The white water rafting on the Barron River is family friendly for children from 12 years of age and the wild Tully River is only suited for 13 year olds travelling with parents
New Cairns Attractions
The white water rush in Cairns and the Tully River has just got a bit more exciting with "face first" River Boarding, Tubing, Canyoning and Abseiling. River tubing is a fun half day morning or afternoon activity from Cairns that everyone can enjoy on grade 1 and 2 rapids surrounded by beautiful rainforest scenery at Behana Gorge.
Also at Behana Gorge we now have canyoning, abseiling and cliff jumping on a new full day tour that also includes snorkelling, rocksliding and some well deserved tucker which is laid out for all under the canopy of the gorges rainforest trees.
If you have heard about the reputation of the Tully River then you must take a peek at this new adrenaline rush "face first" white water tour. All of the white water rafting guides are fully trained and have experience handling the local raging rivers waters you are about to face. These white water rafting guides have rode the rivers many times and have an intimate knowledge of its curves, bends, drops and tricky spots before they are permitted to take visitors in the rafts. Of course, everyone must wear a life jacket and the white water rafting guides give a full safety demonstration before the trip. No need for a camera on the ride as there are staff that work at the best picture points of the rivers to snap those action packed photographs that can be purchased for a very reasonable price at the end of your day. With the exception of The Family Rafting Adventure, the minimum age for rafting is thirteen years of age and if under eighteen years, a form must be signed by a parent or guardian. Be sure to bring a towel, sunscreen, closed in shoes that will not fall off and money for optional extras such as rafting photos and snacks. Wetsuits and rafting shoes are also available for hire.
Rivers in Cairns vary from mild to wild, in fact this is one of the slogans of a Cairns white water rafting company. Depending on your taste you can opt for gentle rivers with a minimum of white water for family rafting or your first time introduction to rafting, or absolutely raging extreme white water rafting torrents where you need to keep your wits about you and listen to your guide.
The Wild Tully River - Mission Beach
The Tully River is regarded by many expert white water rafting enthusiasts as the best rafting river in Australia and New Zealand with rapids that range from grade 1-4.
You can take this tour in two different levels, the regular Tully White Water Rafting or the Tully EXTREME Rafting. The Extreme rafting includes extra challenges such as rock jumping, rapid swimming and raft surfing.
The rapids come in quick succession. After an exhilarating ride through thrashing water, you'll catch your breath and regain your grip on the world only to be confronted with the next rumble of water. A full day white water rafting on the Tully River has more than fourty five rapids twisting through untouched rainforest.
The expedition stops at a picnic shelter for lunch. From there the day continues in more twists and turns through the raging Tully River.
Russell River Rafting
The Russell River is simply one hour away from Cairns and like the Tully River is full of excitement and the thrill of diverse drops and twists. The Russell River rapids range from grade 1-4. The Russell River rafting tour does not feature an extreme upgrade option but on the other hand does feature the option of not only the eight seater rafts but also the sports rafts. The sports rafts are two seater river rafts in which you go with a friend for some action and adventure together. Instead your rafting tour leader guides you from the larger eight seater raft with strict instruction and supervision. Although this might sound a touch scary, it is also incredibly fun to jump into your day sitting "in the drivers seat".
The Barron River Rafting
The Barron River is 20 minutes away from Cairns and is available for half day white water rafting tours and the rafting bus picks you up from your hotel accommodation at aproximately 2:00 PM or those wishing to make their own way can do so for a 2:30 PM start. The rapids range from grade 1-3. The half day White Water rafting is perfect for those wanting to do a combination of tours in one day or even just to indulge in sleeping in on your holiday and taking your day at a leisurely pace. Like the Russell River, the eight seater rafts are available for those interested in the bonding, laughing and team effort that White Water Rafting is. The two man sports rafts are also available for the adrenaline junkie who dares to try out this incredibly fun activity without a guide onboard their raft. Two full hours of white water rafting are included in the half day which can either be the perfect amount for some and leave others craving more, in which the full day excursions are perfect.
