If you want to see what is under the waters of the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns and Port Douglas at night then you need to book a multi day and overnight dive and snorkel tour otherwise known as a liveaboard scuba diving vessel.
We have some of the best known and highly recommended dive boats departing each day for the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. These fully air-conditioned multi-million dollar purpose built dive vessels take divers and snorkelers on expeditions visiting the northern sections of Australia's Great Barrier Reef over 2 days and .
Currently there are no boats in Cairns that offer a one off same night dive tour so you will need to book your pre-post-holiday accommodation around the departure days of the liveaboard dive boats.

A More Personal Experience: Share your 3 day 2 night liveaboard adventure with only 32 other passengers in the 14 fully air-conditioned hotel standard twin share cabins or the 2 double cabins. Crew ratio is 1 staff member for every 5 passengers. There is plenty of space for everyone to relax on the sun deck or in the large lounge or dining room areas.
Please Note:
There are no daily transfer of new visitors on this liveaboard as it returns to Cairns after each trip for a full clean and re-stock of the boat to maintain its high standards of presentation and equipment
Also the non-divers are welcome also as the snorkelling is still very spectacular and probably some of the best you will ever see in the world
Number of Dives: 9 daytime dives and 2 night dives (conditions permitting and a maximum of two dives per site)
16 Exclusive Dive Sites: On 4 different outer Barrier Reef locations (Link this to the reef maps) Flynn Reef, Milln Reef, Pellowe Reef and Thetford Reef. The majority of your dives will be in depths of 5 to 30 metres
What Will I See?: As you are on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef you will see large pelagic surface dwelling fish like Tuna, Giant Trevally, Sunfish and Whales along with the more regular sightings of turtles, dolphins, parrot fish, painted lobsters and magnificent coral structures that are home to the huge variety of marine life. As an added bonus you will witness spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the course of your 3 day 2 night scuba diving adventure
The Costs: It's an all in price for the scuba diving trip with no hidden extra add on's. There is a government charge of $60.00 which is payable for the Environmental Management Charge and the Port Departure tax and administration costs
Foreign Languages: German speaking staff are available on the Thursday and Sunday Departures Japanese speaking staff are available on the Saturday departures
Important Information: Bring along some personal towels, a small carry all soft luggage bag for your personal items and clothing, your divers certificate and or log book and your medical certificate. You may bring along some alcohol but please note you will not be permitted to scuba dive the next day
When Is The Best Time Of Year To Dive On The Great Barrier Reef?
Well we locals say every day is a good day to scuba dive as the water temperatures are an ideal 22 to 28 degrees Celsius (75 to 85 Fahrenheit)

Day 1: You will be at the first dive location by 11.30 am where you can enter the water for your first introductory dive on the Great Barrier Reef just before lunch is served. Once you have let your lunch settle you have the option of going down for another dive before the boat moves off to your night mooring where you can partake in your very first night dive. Please note this night dive option is only applicable for the certified divers.
Day 2: A new dive site awaits your arrival so this is an early morning diving adventure for both snorkelers and scuba divers. You may also partake in a mid-morning snorkel and dive an afternoon dive and then another night dive to round off a fabulous day on the reef.
Day 3: A nice early wake up call to get you prepared for your first dive of the day at around 6.30am and then it's off to breakfast whilst the crew move the boat to another dive location for the balance of your scuba dives.
Snorkelers Are Welcome on Liveaboard Dive Boats If you are not keen on scuba diving no problem as snorkelling is just as fun and interesting and you are welcome to enjoy the ambience and luxury of the liveaboard experience.
