Committed to conservation and preservation, the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary provides guests with the opportunity to experience endangered species such as the adorable Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo and the majestic Southern Cassowary. One of the best, and most unique, features of this tropical wildlife park is that it allows visitors the opportunity to dine amongst the exotic animals in an open air restaurant located right in the heart of the sanctuary itself, and even Swim with a crocodile!
Wander through the large - wheel chair accessible - timber boardwalks thru the three distinct and unique Australian environments: The Wetlands, the Grasslands and the Rainforest. You can observe the Pelicans or the dancing giant water bird the Jabiru in the Wetlands, the Boyd's Forest Dragon in the Rainforests, and the Eastern Grey Kangaroos in the Grasslands. The spacious timber boardwalks allow guests to view the exhibits at different levels. Experience the rainforest from its spectacular lush tropical canopy to the dense forest floor. See the different types of fish, turtles and eels swimming in the clear ponds, or look at the sleepy fruit bats high in the canopy of the trees. The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary has two open air exhibits which allow guests the opportunity to see a diverse array of native Australian birds and marsupials in their natural environment up close and personal. The professional and experienced Guides at Port Douglas' Rainforest Habitat are passionate about their work and love showing you around the wildlife park. All staff at the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Park is committed to the ethos of conservation and Eco Tourism. The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife staff provide interactive shows including fun and informative presentations on crocodiles and pythons which allow you to learn about the animals and to touch a snake or two. The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary provides visitors with the opportunity to have a unique and intimate eco-friendly experience with the wildlife. Don't leave without cuddling a Koala, holding a freshwater crocodile or meeting a python and taking home a souvenir photo to prove it.

If you are an early riser, come to the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy Breakfast with the Birds!
Dine at the open-air Wetland's Restaurant among a range of curious, friendly exotic birds such as parrots, cockatoos and lorikeets. Greeted by friendly staff with complimentary champagne or orange juice, you can then feast upon one of Queensland's best tropical Breakfast buffets which includes a range of fresh and dried tropical and exotic fruits, cereals and muesli, freshly baked pastries and croissants, and locally baked fresh bread. For those with a bigger appetite enjoy the hot breakfast which includes bacon, sausages, beans and hash browns. Watch the chefs skillfully prepare your eggs fresh on the Australian barbeque! There are a range of beverages to select from including several types of fresh juices, ice-chilled water and tea and coffee. Enjoy the wide variety of herbal teas on offer as you enjoy the cool tropical surrounds and the large variety of exotic tropical birds.
After you have eaten as much as possible, walk off breakfast by viewing the wildlife park for the rest of the day Breakfast with the Birds is available between 8.00 am and 10.30 am daily subject to time of year.
Lunch with the Lorikeets
For guests who rise a little later you have the opportunity to enjoy Lunch with the Lorikeets! This delightful tropical lunch features a variety of fresh gourmet foods such as homemade soups with freshly baked bread, barbequed steak, local reef fish, and pasta, a fine selection of salads, tropical fruits and local cheeses with crackers. The buffet lunch at the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is perfect for hungry visitors who can take advantage of the all-you-can-eat buffet style of dining! Enjoy a bottomless cup of local tea or coffee as you enjoy the cheeky lorikeets, unique curlews, noisy parrots and delightful water herons. Lunch with the Lorikeets is available from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm daily subject to time of year.
Groups of families or corporate groups are accommodated for and can enjoy an exclusive Breakfast with the Birds or Lunch with the Lorikeets experience. The Wetlands Restaurant can seat up to 250 people, however has the capacity to handle 600 people with a progressive breakfast format. Special occasions, such as weddings or conferences are catered for.
The Curlew Café is open between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, and serves a variety of snacks and drinks. Complete with a licensed bar, the Curlew Café will satisfy any thirst! The kids (and adults) will be happy with the delightful array of ice-creams to choose from. The perfect treat on a warm Cairns and Tropical North Queensland day.

The Wetlands Environment
The Wetlands environment is a large open air exhibit. The large timber boardwalk allows you to see eye-to-eye with the Cuddly Australian Koalas. You also get the option of touching, feeding and taking photos of Australia's cutest mammals. Koala's are an absolute favorite at the Rainforest Habitat, so don't miss an opportunity to meet these cuddly creatures! The Wetlands environment also provides visitors a chance to see a diverse array of tropical wading birds and the majestic and highly endangered giant Southern Cassowary a flightless bird from pre-historic days.
The Rainforest Environment
Wander along the timber boardwalks in the Rainforest enclosure and experience the tropical rainforest from the forest floor to the top of the rainforest canopy in this unique, eco-friendly environmental exhibit. There are plenty of seats and viewing platforms to watch the diverse array of birds soar through forest canopy or simply enjoy the temperate milieu. The crystal clear waters of the large pond are home to a selection of water birds, such as ducks, pelicans and black swans. Don't miss out on seeing the turtles and eels frolicking in the water. The Rainforest exhibit also features the majestic Southern Cassowary, green tree frogs and the unusual and exotic Lungfish. This unique natural environment provides guests a unique opportunity to experience a slice of Tropical North Queensland's rainforest and the denizens of the rainforest in their natural habitat!
The Grasslands Environment
The Grasslands Environment is a large open air area that allows you to get up close and personal with the native Australian wildlife. Make sure you have purchased some kangaroo food as they are always happy to be hand fed by the guests. Wander along the large timber boardwalks that take you over the dangerous salt and fresh water crocodiles that are lurking beneath, enjoy the large pond that features a vast selection of wading birds (watch out for the large Pelicans!), gaze at the endangered Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos in their natural habitat, and enjoy the spectacle of the naughty native Australian Emu's. The Grasslands provides the most interactive animal experience with most animals wandering freely amongst the guests. A real favorite with the kids!
The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary at Port Douglas also includes a gift shop where you can purchase many intricate gifts as mementos of your visit to Tropical North Queensland. Opening Hours
The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is open between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily, with the exception of Christmas Day. Breakfast with the Birds is available between 8:00 am and 10:30 am daily and Lunch with the Lorikeets is available between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm.
